Pick the date by which you want your best score (often junior year spring), then subtract the 3-9-month study timeline. That typically lands the ideal start in the summer before junior year. Starting in junior fall works comfortably; waiting until senior year means racing early-application deadlines. Earlier than that leaves more test dates from which to choose.
